Blue and White Porcelain

Blue and white porcelain is a type of high-temperature underglaze colored porcelain with a white base and blue patterns. It is made by painting patterns on ceramic bodies using cobalt ore containing cobalt oxide, covering the bodies with transparent glaze, and firing them in one go in a high-temperature reducing flame.

With a long history, it matured at the Hutian Kiln in Jingdezhen during the Yuan Dynasty and became the mainstream of porcelain in the Ming Dynasty. Characterized by its freshness and brightness, it is one of the porcelains that represent Chinese aesthetic concepts.

Product Characteristics

  1. Raw Materials and Craftsmanship

It uses cobalt ore containing cobalt oxide as the raw material. Patterns are painted on white ceramic bodies, which are then covered with transparent glaze and fired in one batch in a high-temperature reducing atmosphere.

  1. Firing Conditions

The firing process requires a high-temperature reducing flame, and the cobalt material turns blue after firing.

  1. Decoration Techniques

The main decoration method is underglaze painting, which can also be combined with techniques such as calligraphy, carving, and stamping.

  1. Style

It features freshness, brightness, simplicity, and elegance, presenting an artistic effect similar to ink wash paintings.

History and Development

  1. Origin

Primitive blue and white porcelain can be traced back to the Tang and Song dynasties, but mature blue and white porcelain began at the Hutian Kiln in Jingdezhen during the Yuan Dynasty.

  1. Development

Blue and white porcelain became the mainstream of porcelain in the Ming Dynasty and reached a new height in the Qing Dynasty. The blue and white porcelains produced during the Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong reigns had unique characteristics in both craftsmanship and artistry.

  1. Modern Development

On the basis of inheriting traditional craftsmanship, modern blue and white porcelain integrates richer decorative techniques and modern aesthetics. It is often combined with colored glazes, forming artistic features of multi-layers, full-picture compositions, and clear primary and secondary elements.

Product Value and Significance

  1. Artistic Value

Blue and white porcelain is not only a practical utensil but also a cultural carrier with extremely high artistic value.

  1. Cultural Significance

It represents the aesthetic concepts of the Chinese nation and, as an important foreign trade commodity, has exerted a wide influence on the world.

  1. Collection Value

Blue and white porcelains from different periods, especially fine products from imperial kilns, have high collection value.

Product Applications

  1. Daily Utensils

It can be made into daily necessities such as tableware, tea sets, and wine sets.

  1. Decorative Ornaments

As ornaments or decorations, it reflects the owner’s taste and cultural accomplishment.

Leaf-Inlaid Tenmoku Glaze—- Leaf Mug 1

Leaf Tenmoku Glaze, Best Sellers, LIVE PRODUCTS
$99.00
Leaf-Patterned Tenmoku Glaze is a type of black-glazed porcelain originating from the Jizhou Kiln of the Southern Song Dynasty. Its uniqueness lies in fusing the ash of mulberry or bodhi leaves with black glaze through high-temperature firing, forming off-white vein-like patterns. The core of this craftsmanship involves placing processed leaves on glazed ceramic bodies, which are then fired at a high temperature of approximately 1,300°C. This causes the leaf ash to blend into the glaze, creating a "leaf vein" decorative effect that stands in striking contrast to the black glaze. Leaf-Patterned Tenmoku Glaze was exported overseas during the Song and Yuan dynasties. In the 1980s, the long-lost ancient techniques for producing it were successfully reproduced, and it has now been listed as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Wood-Fired Porcelain— Coffee Cup 6

Best Sellers, Wood-Fired Porcelain, LIVE PRODUCTS
$99.00 Original price was: $99.00.$69.00Current price is: $69.00.
Wood-fired pottery is an ancient firing method, with wood as the primary fuel for the kiln. Initially, when firing pottery, it was necessary to cover the ceramic bodies to isolate wood ash from fire and avoid direct contact, ensuring the consistent glaze color of the products. In ancient China’s orthodox porcelain-making standards, any traces of ash on the glaze or fire marks on the ceramic bodies were not appreciated (when technically avoidable) and were regarded as flawed products.
